WHAT ARE LENS IMPLANTS (INTRAOCULAR LENSES)?
An intraocular lens, or IOL, is a small lens that is surgically implanted inside your eye to replace the natural lens to correct cataracts, nearsightedness,
farsightedness or presbyopia.
There are different IOL options available -- monofocal and multifocal lenses. Monofocal lenses are designed to provide patients with enhanced distance or near vision but typically patients still require the use of glasses. Multifocal lenses are designed to provide patients who have a strong desire for greater independence from glasses or contacts with multifunctional vision.
